Mountains above Corris

West Routes

Walk over the rolling Carmarthenshire hills, through the evocative Brechfa Forest and up the old Roman road to the coast of north Wales.

You can visit the abbeys at Whitland, Strata Florida and Cymmer, the Roman fort at Tomen-y-mur (location of the Mabinogion story of Lleu Llaw Gyffes) and Dolwyddelan Castle, traditional birthplace of the great Welsh ruler Llywelyn ab Iorwerth. There are also slate quarries, pretty market towns and remote country churches to enjoy.

Much of this part of the route is provisional, and too much is still on minor roads. We walked it in 2005 but things may have changed since then. Use the blog and let us know how you get on.
