Llyn Alwen and Llyn Aled Reservoirs

The dam on Llyn Alwen

The Alwen Reservoir was built in the eary 20th century to provide water for Birkenhead. The Llyn Aled and Aled Isaf reservoirs were planned in the 1930s to supply water to the coastal resorts of Rhyl and Prestatyn, but money ran out and the aqueduct was never built. Instead, they are used to control the flow of water into the River Aled.

More on all three reservoirs on the Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust web site.
